How To Connect With Your School Aged Son

I swear my son grew from a small, cuddle loving toddler into an independent young man overnight.

I used to be able to connect to him so easily with our playful games as he giggled and landed sloppy kisses on my face.

Now I barely can get a hug out of him before bed.

I knew I needed to find a way to stay connected to him as he grew and matured.

We have activities we enjoy doing together like hiking and board games but I wanted to keep him talking and communicating with me, especially after his father passed.

I knew our connection was more important than ever.

I came across a mother and son journal online and bought it hesitantly.

I thought he might roll his eyes and call it silly.

As I introduced the idea of the journal to him he was more excited than I expected.

We sat down and filled out the first few pages together, setting up our ground rules.

It quickly became something we both looked forward to passing back and forth.

The “Between Mom and Me” journal allowed my son and I to share memories, feelings, and our hopes and dreams.

I’ve learned so many things I would have never thought to ask.

If you’re looking for a way to reconnect with your son, or to connect on a deeper level, I highly recommend this pass back and forth journal.

It’s such a simple concept that only takes a few minutes of your time.

It has been a game changer for our relationship and I hope it can be for yours too!
